چکیده

The effect of local graft irradiation on' immune response in allograft in which acute rejection occurs was studied using an in vitro model. Unidirectional mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) was used as the in vitro model of acute rejection.· 150 and 300 rad x-irradiation suppressed mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) but did not cell-mediated-lympholysis (CML) of unsensitized lymphocytes. X-irradiated alloantigen ~ensitized cells (ASC) generated in 6-day MLC suppressed MLR and CML of unsensitized lymphocytes. Suppressive effects of x-irradiated ASC were of the same. degree by x-irradiation doses of 150-500 rad. Suppressive effect of x-irradiation was maintained for only a short period after x-irradiation. Potential function of suppressor precursor cells among unsensitized lymphocytes was abolished by x-irradiation of 300 rad.

The migration of activated murine T lymphocytes in vitro. II. Evidence for differential locomotion of T cell subsets.

Lymphocytes that were activated by various means (recovered from an in vivo allograft site, sensitized in mixed lymphocyte culture, or stimulated by Con A in vitro), were extremely motile in vitro when compared to unsensitized lymph node lymphocytes. Allosensitized lymphocytes generated in vitro and in vivo (harvested on days of peak cell-mediated cytotoxicity) were more motile than Con A-activ...

Effects of Gamma Irradiation on Proliferation and IL-5 Production of Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes

Gamma irradiation is routinely used for suppression of lymphocyte function in transfusion and transplantation procedures. In recent years, some investigators focused on the effects of ionizing radiation on special aspects of lymphocyte function and considered the possibility of its clinical application for treatment of some immunological disorders. In this study, we evaluated the effects of fiv...

Evaluation of low dose diagnostic X-rays induced effect on the white blood cells count in Guinea pigs

Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation is known to have various effects on hematological parameters of biological sample. This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of ionizing radiation on some hematological parameters in guinea pigs. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six (36) apparently healthy adult guinea pigs of both sexes weighing between 700g – 1200...

Effect of low dose X-ray on membrane fluidity of thalassemic red blood cells

Background: Chest X-ray is one of the examinations required for an annual health checkup. The interaction of radiation to the medium produces free radicals, which consequently causes biological changes either structural or properties of the cells. Whether the radiation from Chest X-ray upright technique affects the plasma membrane fluidity of thalassemic red blood cells (RBCs) is still unclear....

Biological Dose Assessment by Chemical Induction of Premature Chromosome Condensation

Dose assessment of radiation victims is a key element in medical management of radiation accidents. At high radiation doses (> 6 Gy), dicentric assay lose its efficiency and premature chromosome condensation (PCC) assay was proposed to overcome the restrictions of dicentric assay. It was shown that PCC ring is more suitable and simpler than dicentric for biodosimetry in high radiation doses. In...
